Treasured traditions

Whether it's a round of charades, baking cookies or the annual viewing of Elf, festive traditions help you connect with those you love most. Some are universal, while others are beautifully unique. In Poland, for example, an extra place is set at the table, ready to welcome any unexpected guest. We've loved hearing about the traditions these authors treasure the most.

MIRANDA HART I SPEND TWIXMAS IN ONLY A DRESSING GOWN IF ANYTHING!'

I have many Christmas traditions. I once confounded some TV viewers trying to explain the game, 'This is a spoon...' (if you know, you know, if you don't, you're probably better off!). And I've often shared that I will find a place for bread sauce and brandy butter at every meal - cholesterol depending, these days. But here, I will share my new favourite tradition, which is embracing the lazy Twixmas days in only a dressing gown or onesie - if anything! Yes, there is a new 'nude in front of a fire, lying on soft pillows tradition' for at least four days. And you are so welcome for that image.

The Christmas Tree That Loved to Dance by Miranda Hart, illustrated by Lucy Dunbar (£16.99, HB, Penguin), is out on 23 October.
