Would you do your adult child's laundry?

YES

It's my way of showing that I still care'

Jo Fernandez, 55, is a writer from London.

imageSome mums might sigh when their student child arrives home with cases full of dirty socks and knickers but I don't bat an eyelid. 'Stick it on the kitchen floor and I'll sort it,' I tell my daughter Maya, 20.

I'm certainly not one for mollycoddling. But I do know how hard she works, studying French and politics at uni in Manchester, along with doing part-time jobs.

She doesn't always have time for laundry and she's exhausted when she comes home. So I want to take care of her, making her favourite meals like tandoori chicken with basmati rice and salad and, yes, tearing through the piles of dirty washing.
