The palace's future hangs in the balance as the couple choose an untraditional path

WILLS & KATE'S SHOCKING MOVE

Relocating to a new, bigger home on the Windsor estate is a great move for the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children. But there are fears that finding their "forever home" could have a detrimental effect on the long-term future of the monarchy if they decide to stay there once Prince William becomes king.

These follow suggestions that the future king won't move to Buckingham Palace traditionally the home of the British monarch - with wife Kate and kids Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, preferring instead to stay put in Forest Lodge, the house they're moving to later this year from the much smaller Adelaide Cottage.

While living at the lodge long-term is probably the best thing for the family, it has raised concerns that William and Kate could risk making royalty seem less regal if the monarch's home is a country house rather than an iconic palace.

imageForest Lodge is an ideal family home now given how determined Kate and William, both 43, are for their children George, 12, Charlotte, 10, and Louis, seven, to have as normal an upbringing as possible.

It's very private, close to their schools, and has huge grounds and woods where they can spend hours playing.
