The couple behind glamping pioneer Under Canvas unveils a new lodge in an under-visited part of South Africa.

Second Act

A bush breakfast at Few & Far Luvhondo, a new safari lodge in South Africa's Soutpansberg Mountains.

AFTER SELLING THEIR glamping business, Under Canvas, in 2018, Sarah and Jacob Dusek left their home in Bozeman, Montana, and hightailed it to Africa in search of adventure. Their travels across the continent showed them how tourism can help conservation efforts.

In 2024, the couple, who now split their time between Cape Town and Bozeman, launched Few & Far, a tour operator that specializes in high-end trips throughout Africa and other adventure destinations, like Argentina’s Iberá Wetlands. Each itinerary comes with an impact statement that details how guests’ dollars will drive positive change and support communities. A gorilla trek in Rwanda, for example, benefits anti-poaching efforts through the Endangered Wildlife Trust.

In December, the Duseks debuted their first lodge, Few & Far Luvhondo (suites from $1,800 per person), a six-suite, carbon-neutral property in the lesser-known Soutpansberg Mountains, in northeastern South Africa. The lodge has a solar-powered sky tram that delivers treetop views of some of the 62,000-acre reserve and the animals— including giraffes, zebras, and kudu—that call it home.

Sarah Dusek talked with T+L about reimagining the concept of the safari lodge.

What was your goal for Under Canvas?
