ELON MUSK SAYS XAI COULD REACH AGI WITH GROK 5 AS HE RENEWS FOCUS ON TESLA AND AI

Elon Musk has made some of his boldest statements yet about artificial intelligence, telling investors and followers that his startup xAl could achieve artificial general intelligence (AGI) with its next-generation model, Grok 5.

The remarks came during a wide-ranging discussion on Tesla, Al, and the future of his companies, in which Musk admitted that for the first time, he believes true human-level Al may be within reach.

MUSK’S SHIFTING VIEW ON AGI

Musk has long been both an evangelist and a critic of Al, often warning of the dangers of unchecked development. But his latest comments suggest a shift in tone. “I never thought that before,” Musk said when asked whether Grok 5 could deliver AGI. “But now, given the progress we've made, I think it’s possible.”

AGI—defined as an Al system that can match or surpass human cognitive abilities across a broad range of tasks—remains a contested milestone in the tech world. Most researchers argue it could be decades away, while others doubt it will ever be achieved. Musk’s confidence reflects his belief that breakthroughs in reasoning, autonomy, and multimodal learningare accelerating faster than most expected.

xAl's chatbot Grok launched in 2023 with integration into Musk’s social platform X, and has since been upgraded to Grok 3. Musk says Grok 5 will represent a “giant leap” over its predecessors, focusing on advanced reasoning, tool use, and real-world problem-solving.
