At last, three years after it was first announced, the next generation of Apple CarPlay is here. It’s called CarPlay Ultra and, for the first time, it brings Apple's iPhone-powered car infotainment system to multiple screens. That means your music and navigation apps are still on the central touchscreen, but now the driver display behind the steering wheel is also running CarPlay.

That all sounds rather simple, but there's an awful lot going on beneath the surface to make this work - and for it to work so seamlessly on, eventually, a wide range of cars from numerous manufacturers all over the world.
