This isn't a reprint of the Watch S8. The S9 looks identical but has improvements only you, the wearer, will feel.

There is now, a new pink shade to add to the repertoire but the square dial and 41 or 45mm sizes persist. It’s a dial format that has worked for watchOS and clearly, until the big 10th anniversary next year, Apple doesn’t want to upset the status quo. What has changed dramatically is the way you use the primary controls in watchOS 10.

The digital crown can be rotated to show a new screen Apple calls “smart stack”. It’s a collection of widgets that it thinks you use most often, along with the ability to customise and pin them in order of preference. The side button has been remapped too and it brings up Control Centre now.

What is better is the new S9 SIP or system in package that increases the processing capabilities of the new Apple Watch beyond anything that the series 8 could have done. Double Tap gesture and a new Ultra wideband chip unlocks various new functions. If you’re in the Apple ecosystem, this is a big flex.
