You know that sinking feeling you get when you land on a website and you're instantly sucked in?

Don't read this column unless you want to waste at least an hour of your life, says Jon Honeyball

Down the rabbit hole you go, either in amazement at wonderful things or in mild horror at what's being presented. Sometimes it can be educational, sometimes fun. Sometimes it's deeply disturbing, and you back away from the keyboard, not quite knowing how to process what has just been experienced.

Today I had a mixture of all of that. Because I fell upon a website called National Day Calendar (nationaldaycalendar.com).

This site details all the “National Day of Something” that seems to be happening all the time. It’s a very well presented website without a hint of parody. You can search by all sorts of useful parameters, but my own rabbit hole was its International Day page.

Did you know that 4 January is World Hypnotism Day? Click on the page and you're taken to a fact-filled page all about it. I had no idea a World Hypnotism Day Committee had been set up to bring this to life, and I now feel strangely compelled to tell you to visit worldhypnotismday.com.

World Braille Day takes place on 4 January, too, so best not to accept any laser-printed calendar invites for that day. Not that there’s anything wrong with the day’s aims: it’s there to remind us all about Braille and the ways it’s supported in various apps and platforms. Definitely a good thing. Accessibility Support is there for everyone to use, irrespective of our needs.
