There are loads of people out there pining for the golden age of Sid Meier’s Pirates!, I’m certain of it. In the absence of another remake, we dig for treasure instead in open-world piratical games that take MicroProse’s work as an inspiration, such as Concept Games’ crowdfunded effort.

The main issue with Pirates!, 21 years after its last release, is its repetitive nature. Seven Seas: Adventures attempts to rectify this with 37 different ports to visit, a set of unique starting conditions for your custom character that will affect the way they are received by society, and no dancing minigame.
