Children purring for free football
KINGSHOLM is better known for the oval ball than a round one but Gloucester City AFC are making a splash in the area thanks to an injection of funding for free football sessions.
The Pitching In Southern League outfit recently received a grant from the Trident Community Foundation, which offers grants of between £1,000-£5,000 to clubs at Step 3 and 4 of the Non-League pyramid to launch or expand community projects.
The Tigers put this funding to use by increasing access to structured football sessions for people from materially deprived backgrounds, with between 20-30 children regularly taking part.
Matt Phillips, vice-chairman of the Gloucester City Supporters' Trust, said: "We were surprised by the uptake and how the community responded.
