The system is ludicrious — and unfair

NOW is perhaps an appropriate juncture for a serious discussion of the play-off system, bearing in mind that the teams who finished fifth and seventh in the National League fought it out at Wembley for a place in the Football League.

Perhaps it is worth mentioning that, whilst an interested follower of the NonLeague scene, I have no particular axe to grind with regard to the support of a specific club, but I find it impossible not to mention the following ‘grouse’ regarding the ‘play-off’ system.

Let’s just refresh our memories regarding the National League. Barnet are promoted. Fair enough and well done to them.
