JAMIE TOMPKINS has admitted he didn't want to leave Ascot United but says their “ambitions were no longer aligned”.
Tompkins who led the Yellas to 2023 FA Vase glory left the Berkshire club by mutual consent on Wednesday, two weeks after their Isthmian South Central play-off semi-final defeat by Hanworth Villa.
A fourth-placed finish at Step 4 this season will go down as the highest in the club's 60-year history but Tompkins felt he had taken the job as far as he could given the likelihood of impending financial constraints.
