TWO late goals ensured York City returned to winning ways after their Bank Holiday Monday home defeat to Boston United with a hard-fought win over Dagenham & Redbridge at the Chigwell Construction Stadium.

Substitutes Lenell John-Lewis and Ollie Pearce delivered the killer strikes – John-Lewis, a 69th-minute replacement for Dipo Akinyemi, striking the first for the Minstermen 10 minutes from time before Pearce added a second 13 minutes into stoppage time.

“Today was all about perseverance and we gave it our all,” said a relieved Adam Hinshelwood.

“We had to defend and ensure we defended their set plays well which we did but in the second half we did get a chance to play some of our football and the depth in our squad came through.

“I was really happy with the result but we have work to do still.”
