Horgan’s eyeing up the big boys

Gary Horgan has admitted his disappointment at losing club captain Matt McClure, but insists the Bluebirds are planning for the long term in National League South.

Former Wycombe striker McClure, 33, joined the Wiltshire club from Gloucester City two years ago but recently left the Thornbury Surfacing Stadium, leaving Horgan keen to sign a replacement of similar standard.

As Chippenham prepare for a ninth successive campaign at Step 2 following a 14th-place finish last term, adding some more experience to complement his squad of talented youngsters is a priority for the Bluebirds chief.

“Unfortunately, we were able to get Matt back for another season but football is like that and so we have lost a big part of our experience,” Horgan told The NLP.
