Golf Monthly's guide to arranging and running a memorable and successful event

How to organise the perfect golf day

There are few things in golf that are more universally enjoyed than a well organised and effectively run golf day. These events are enormous fun, bringing golfers of all ages and abilities together to socialise, compete a little and just relish playing the game they love in a pressure-free environment.

A perfect golf day is of great benefit to: the participants, who experience a memorable outing; the clubs hosting them, who gain custom and recognition; and the charities they support, for whom the funds raised will pave the way to vital work that provides help to those in need.

For all those involved to get the very most from a golf day, it needs to be planned carefully and run in a way that is relaxed yet efficient. Here is our guide to organising the perfect golf day....

INCLUDE EVERYONE

It seems obvious, but a golf day will be most successful if it’s fully subscribed. With that in mind, the best way to get a full turnout is to make the day open to everybody – men, women, juniors and seniors. The perfect golf day is a communal event, bringing a club, and visitors to the club, together. If you’re organising a day at a members’ club, it’s a good idea to allow members to invite guests and to allow groups of non-members to enter.

Encourage entrants to invite friends and family who aren’t playing to come along as spectators and supporters. Not only will that add to the atmosphere, but it might also help the club to gain new members and golf to gain new fans.
