New research by scientists at Sweden, and Columbia University, in the US, suggests that your heart could have its own "mini brain".

Your heart has a "brain"

Unlike the brain in your head, what scientists mean is that the heart has its own nervous system that controls its own heartbeat. All bodies have a central nervous system, made up of the brain and spinal cord. However, this new discovery of a smaller version in the heart could help scientists develop new treatments for conditions such as heart disease.
