Protecting jaguar homes
The Week Junior Science+Nature UK
|December 2025
Meet the incredible people saving big cats in rainforests.
-
Wild jaguars are found in Central and South America, but these beautiful big cats are in danger due to hunting and habitat loss. Now farmers and activists are making it their mission to protect these beautiful cats and their homes.
Jaguar-human conflict
Jaguars might be skilled predators, but in Panama, Central America, humans have put them under strain. In the 1960s and 1970s, people used to hunt these big cats for their beautiful fur. Trading products made from jaguars is now banned but humans are still destroying the rainforests where jaguars live, in order to grow crops or farm cattle.
