A bizarre ancient marine reptile has been formally identified, decades after fossils of the creature were first discovered in Canada.
The 12m-long (40ft) vertebrate, Traskasaura sandrae, was a long-necked plesiosaur - a type of aquatic predator that lived at the time of the dinosaurs - with a bizarre anatomy and a rare top-down hunting style.
