Bharat Forge, a global leader in the automotive and industrial sectors, has seamlessly transitioned into aerospace manufacturing, showcasing its adaptability and manufacturing prowess. This transition has been underpinned by decades of expertise and strategic vision, as explained by their leadership.
Building a Foundation on Manufacturing Excellence
Bharat Forge's journey into aerospace manufacturing is deeply rooted in its history of excellence in manufacturing. Traditionally excelling in build-to-print and build-to-spec operations within the automotive sector, the company has developed a robust value chain that includes backward integration into steelmaking and raw material production, as well as forward integration into assemblies and finished products.
"Our extensive expertise in manufacturing over the last 60 years provided a strong foundation for our entry into aerospace manufacturing," shared Guru, emphasising the company's deep metallurgical understanding of critical alloys. The initial focus was on aerospace components. Although aerospace materials differ from those used in automotive applications, Bharat Forge's established manufacturing capabilities facilitated a seamless transition.
Furthermore, aerospace manufacturing in India heavily relies on imported raw materials—almost 99 per cent of commercial alloys are sourced from abroad. Recognising this challenge, we have been actively working with our group company, SAARLOHA, on creating the capability to develop critical alloys for aerospace applications. While progress has been made, this remains a key part of our long-term vision.
