Tributes pour in for Mavis, the nurse who fought for lung cancer patients

Tributes have been paid to a Leeds nurse who led the fight for patients battling asbestos-linked cancer.

The first mesothelioma nurse in the UK, Mavis Robinson MBE dedicated her life to this area of work after witnessing a growing number of cases of the disease in areas of the city, including Armley.

Many of those affected had worked or lived near the JW Roberts Ltd asbestos factory.

Mavis, who died on March 23 aged 86, developed mesothelioma-specific training, support services and information resources, eventually becoming a mentor to lung cancer nurses across the country.
