The Unbeatables: Women's football team that's in a league of its own
Yorkshire Evening Post
|May 05, 2025
A sports club in Leeds aims to expand its women teams after seeing a significant rise in demand, according to the club captains and head coaches.
Ruth Turner captains Leeds Modernians Women's development team, who have just completed an invincible league campaign in their first-ever season.
A recent 4-2 play-off victory over Sherburn White Rose Development away helped the Mods win the overall West Riding County Women's Division Five title.
The win caps off a remarkable debut season for the side, who won all 14 of their Women's Division Five B games, bagging 133 goals, and conceding just 12 goals, before facing off against Division Five A winners Sherburn, who were also unbeaten in the league this season, to take the overall promotion crown.
Turner described the development team's success as "a brilliant achievement" and said that the team hopes to inspire more women to get involved in football.
She said: "The team has done really, really well.
"They've worked so hard all season, not just in the games, but in their training too.
"They have been consistently great... they deserve it.
