The Devil's Plan proves game shows don't have to be simple

Twelve personalities walk into a cosy living room with cameras on the walls.

Among them are YouTubers, actors and even a K-pop idol.

No this is not Big Brother, this is The Devil's Plan.

It's a South Korean competition show where contestants play mind-bendingly complex games in a bid to win up to 500,000,000 (the equivalent of around £269,000).

Every day, players compete in Main Matches to win and protect 'pieces' and Prize Matches to build the ending winnings. Explanations of individual game rules can themselves take up to 20 per cent of an episode, which makes me feel bad for ever claiming that Genius Game is too complicated for TV.

But surprisingly, The Devil's Plan, despite its difficulty, or perhaps because of it, is brilliant to watch.

The first game is similar to party favourites Mafia and Werewolf. Two players have to covertly try and 'infect' all other players with an imaginary disease while other players have roles with varying powers that they can use to try and uncover who these two players are before it is too late.
