The animals were being kept at a house in Kitson Street, which the charity that rescued them described as 'urine-soaked'.

An RSPCA officer described her boots 'squelching' on the stairs during a visit, when rubbish and faeces were seen littered throughout the property.

Fiona Martin, 58, and Helen Martin, 41, were sentenced at Kirklees Magistrates Court on April 22 following an investigation and prosecution by the RSPCA.

Both women had pleaded guilty to failing to meet the animals' needs. Helen Martin was also given an eight-week prison sentence, suspended for two years, after she also admitted breaching a disqualification order after she was banned from keeping animals for life in 2018.
