Mobility scooter and a bath seat - the worst of our drivers
Yorkshire Evening Post
|September 04, 2025
West Yorkshire Police officers have shared the worst excuses they've heard for driving offences committed across the region.
Not wanting to spill a pot of sauce balanced on the steering wheel was one of the worst excuses given to police.
Officers had stopped the motorist after witnessing them swerving across lanes and performing a poor overtaking manoeuvre, putting the lives of other road users at risk.
Police also discovered a man riding his mobility scooter on a motorway - he told them it was "the fastest way home" - as well as someone caught with their child strapped into a child's bath seat.
Roads policing lead Chief Insp James Farrar said: "Roads policing officers regularly have to deal with the aftermath of fatal and serious injury collisions, and so many of these involve at least one of the 'fatal five' offences.
