Benefit system spells misery for disabled people

The Department for Work and Pensions is facing criticism over persistent delays in processing disability benefit claims and with overreliance on outdated technology to function.

Massive delays in processing personal independence payments (PIP) are commonplace.

These delays are pushing people into poverty and doing irreparable damage to our welfare system.

The system's chief role is to support disabled people with the cost of living and ensuring mobility and quality of life, but the truth is that claimants are often waiting for years for a claim to be settled.

It is substantially more expensive to live as a disabled person.
