Swimmers battle jellyfish in 8-mile race

SWIMMERS who took part in a gruelling eight-mile race from Torquay to Brixham fought off stinging jellyfish to cross the finishing line.

Some 28 swimmers from the UK and further afield, from late teens to early 60s, took part in Saturday's Torbay Swim.

Now known officially as BLDSA Torbay, the event has been running for more than 60 years and is considered one of the British Long Distance Swimming Association’s toughest events.

Lyndon Dunsbee holds the record with a time of 2hr 40min in 1986. The fastest woman was Karen Toole in 2hr 42min in 1983.
