Horse rescue charity on track for year record

A WESTCOUNTRY equine rescue charity says it is on track to reach a rehoming record for 2025, despite being hit by extreme flooding earlier this year.

World Horse Welfare’s Glenda Spooner Farm, in Somerset, has found new homes for nearly 60 horses and ponies over the past eight months, with the figure being helped along by several ponies leaving in pairs.

The rehoming pattern has led staff at the Somerton-based rescue and rehoming centre to describe it as their very own 'Noah's Ark' moment, but, despite the two-by-two departures, the charity says there are still plenty of ponies looking for a new stable to call home.

Sara Jerman, assistant centre manager, said: "The floods earlier this year really were quite Biblical, so it was a bit uncanny when we realised we've rehomed quite a few ponies in pairs since then - it does seem to be quite a Noah's Ark-themed year for us!
