VOTERS go to the polls in local elections in the Westcountry and across England today after campaigning entered its final day yesterday ahead of the first major test of public opinion under Sir Keir Starmer's premiership.

Election day for councils in Cornwall and Devon

Politicians and candidates made their closing pitches to voters yesterday before the polls opened across England today in six mayoral contests and in 23 local authority areas including Devon County Council and Cornwall Council.

Nationally, more than 1,640 council seats across councils are up for grabs. Voters in the constituency of Runcorn & Helsby will choose a new MP.
