WELSH trainers and jockeys dominated the first jumps meeting of the season at Ffos Las on Thursday, but champion jockey Sean Bowen, who has been in red-hot form of late, surprisingly drew a blank.

- With JAMES BURN

As usual, Bowen had some nice rides, but finished third on all of them as the spoils went to his domestic counterparts, including one for his younger brother James on Calme Olympien, successful in the 2m4f maiden hurdle for Tim Vaughan, who trains near Cowbridge

An import from France, the sixyear-old was having his first start in Britain and, despite a few untidy leaps, managed to secure victory.

Evan Williams, based not far from Vaughan, was able to bag the next race, the 3m4f handicap chase won by Puddlesinthepark.

The contest was worth £8,900 and was the feature of the card, and Williams would have been thrilled to strike with the gelding, whose rider Osian Radford had ridden only one winner prior to the race.
