Western Mail Is this devolution’s crowning moment?

ONE of the (some would say many) things about which the Welsh Government disagrees with its colleagues in London is the Crown Estate.

The Welsh Labour government wants it devolved to Wales, but the UK administration has said no.

Welsh Secretary Jo Stevens has said devolving the Crown Estate to Wales would put the potential for floating offshore wind “at risk”. Earlier this year, she told MPs that wind power could create 5,300 jobs and give a £1.4bn boost to the economy, but handing the power to Wales would “put all that at risk”.

In the Senedd this week, rural affairs minister Huw IrrancaDavies stood up to put his wing of the party’s views out there, committing to setting up an expert group (at a cost of £20,000) to look into it further.
