The visitors were excellent for large periods of the game with a hat-trick of tries from Wales U20s wing Tom Bowen along with a touchdown from Josh Adams giving them a real shot at victory.

But they failed to convert a single try in difficult conditions in Limerick, which ultimately cost them the game.

Ruadhan Quinn, Gavin Coombes and Diarmuid Barron scored Munster's tries, while player of the match Jack Crowley kicked eight points.

Munster started well as playmaker Crowley chipped over the top of the Cardiff defence before regathering the ball and punting it upfield.

Dan Kelly beat Adams to the ball and tried to use the conditions to slide over the line.

The try was disallowed by the TMO but he did spot a high tackle by Cardiff lock Josh McNally, who was sent to the sin-bin.
