There's a delicious looking tea available
NOTHING says “treat yourself” like sinking into a bubbling hot tub or drifting off mid-massage in a plush robe and slippers. When you're overdue for some proper downtime, a spa break is the ultimate escape and Wales is packed with lush spots where you can chill out and de-stress.
From chic seaside sanctuaries with sea-air serenity to lakefront spa hotels with dreamy views and sleek city retreats perfect for a last-minute pamper day, there's a spa for every kind of self-care seeker here.
As a travel writer and podcaster, I have been fortunate to visit many of Wales’ spa hotels and try whirlpools, treatments, and saunas. Yes, it’s a hard job, but someone has to do it.
While I have several preferred spa escapes (primarily ones that let you have a glass of fizz in the pool), there is a particular waterfront hotel I keep coming back to repeatedly.
One of Cardiff's flagship hotels, Voco St David's by IHG, is an iconic building with a commanding position overlooking the cosmopolitan bay marina.
Despite its location in my hometown, I've long had a soft spot for this swish spa hotel and have had many celebrations there, including milestone birthdays and an engagement shindig.
I love having an upscale spa on my doorstep. I can book a spa and lunch day with friends or my long-suffering husband, or even stay in one of their stylish rooms if I fancy a night away.
If you’re staying the night, you have four options, from cosy standard rooms to suites with sweeping sea views. Expect crisp white linens, fluffy towels and luxe Antipodes toiletries. Several rooms have fantastic views of the Bay, docklands and Penarth. The hotel is pet-friendly, and your dog can enjoy a holiday for an additional charge of £35 per room per night.
