Skyline set to change as iconic cranes dismantled

THE familiar harbour cranes at Port Talbot are being dismantled as part of ongoing changes to the Tata site.

After the blast furnaces were closed last year, resulting in hundreds of job losses, work on the new electric arc furnace began in July and it’s expected to be operational by early 2028.

The changes mean the end of steelmaking from raw materials in Wales, as the new arc furnace recycles previously-used steel.
