Road sweeper truck plunges into sinkhole
Western Mail
|February 04, 2026
A COUNCIL sweeper truck fell into a sinkhole which suddenly opened up behind a row of houses in a Valleys town.
-
A number of homes in Porth, Rhondda, have since been evacuated due to the sinkhole, which appeared in a lane near the old bus depot in the town on Monday afternoon.
The council said the ground collapse was believed to be related to old mining works in the area.
The Mining Remediation Authority is investigating the cause of the incident and confirmed five houses in Aberrhondda Road had been evacuated as a precaution.
