DAVE Reddin has revealed talks have been held between the Welsh Rugby Union and the Rugby Football Union around creating an Anglo-Welsh competition.

- STEFFAN THOMAS

Speaking on The Good, The Bad and The Rugby Podcast, the Welsh Rugby Union's director of rugby and elite performance has mooted a potential Anglo-Welsh competition between Wales' Super Rygbi Cymru (SRC) clubs and the English Championship.

Reddin is the architect of the WRU's proposed new structure for the professional game and its supporting pathways which includes reducing the number of teams from four to three.

While most of the headlines has centred around the decision to cut one of Wales' four professional teams, he also has plans to significantly change the pathway, which also includes investing an extra £500,000 into the SRC.

In the future Reddin insists he would like to see an Anglo-Welsh competition between the SRC clubs and the English Championship.

This would see the likes of Carmarthen Quins, Cardiff, Llandovery, Newport and RGG take on Ealing Trailfinders, Coventry and Richmond, among others.
