Rape-accused employee ‘no longer in workplace’

University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board had previously come under fire after admitting it had not suspended the worker, who is under police bail following his arrest on suspicion of five offences.

South Wales Police arrested the man from Cardiff last August on suspicion of rape, intentional strangulation, coercive or controlling behaviour, stalking, and common assault. He remains on bail while police investigate.

The health board initially said it had placed the employee in “a supervised non-patient facing role” rather than suspending him ~ a decision that outraged the complainant and prompted Plaid Cymru MS Heledd Fychan to urge the health board to “reassess” the situation.
