MAN "completely lost the plot" and beat up an ex-partner after he found out she had started a new relationship, a court has heard.

- JASON EVANS

Cameron Gladwin treated the woman like a “rag doll” before headbutting her TV, kicking a door off its hinges, holding a knife to his own throat, and throwing a bag of cocaine at the woman and telling her to film him taking it.

A judge at Swansea Crown Court said there was an “epidemic of domestic violence” in society, adding that many people seem to think they don’t have obligations, only rights, something he said which may be linked to “the quality of politicians these days who tell people they can do whatever they want”.

Georgia Donohue, prosecuting, told the court that Gladwin and the complainant in the case had been in a relationship for around two years before it came to an end in August last year, though she said they continued to have contact with one another and the relationship continued on an “on-off basis” for a number of months.

The court heard that on the morning of February 3 this year the woman woke in the home of a friend to a series of calls from the defendant, during which he shouted down the phone that he would kill her and break the legs of the man she was with.
