Jobs saved as company buys furniture-makers

A WELSH company has bought a furniture manufacturer that has been operating for nearly 50 years out of administration, saving 53 jobs.

Summit 1977, a handcrafted furniture business operating from a 45,000 sq ft factory in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, appointed Neil Vinnicombe and Huw Powell of Begbies Traynor as joint administrators last week.

Following a marketing process the company’s business and its assets were sold via a prepackaged administration to the Advanced Furniture group, based in Ebbw Vale.

The new company will trade as Summit Workspace.

Advanced Furniture, which supplies contract furniture to businesses and local government, has been running since 1979 and has grown to fill a 100,000 sq ft factory in the Ebbw Vale enterprise zone.
