Fuchs: 'Only players who want to make a difference will play'

CHRISTIAN FUCHS says only players who “want to make a difference for the club” will earn a place in the starting XI after Newport County crashed out of the FA Cup at Boreham Wood on Sunday, writes Andrew Penman.

Fuchs made seven changes and those that came in failed to grasp the opportunity as County were beaten 3-0 by the National League promotion hopeful.

The Exiles are four points adrift at the bottom of the EFL and five points from safety before tonight's league trip to Crewe Alexandra and the Austrian warned that League Two survival will be beyond them if they don’t improve quickly.

“After 90 minutes if you walk off with a 3-0 defeat of course you're not happy with the performance,” he said.

“Big respect to Boreham Wood - they played really well. I can accept defeat, no problem, but after 20 minutes, we were too passive. We were giving up a little bit on ourselves, which I didn’t like to see.
