CHAMPS FIND THEIR FORM IN TRY-FEST
Western Mail
|December 22, 2025
HAMPIONS Newport moved into the top four in Super Rygbi Cymru after they defeated RGC 54-31 in a 12-try thriller at Newport Stadium.
-
It made it six wins from seven for the Black and Ambers, who have found their groove again after a difficult start to their title defence that saw them lose their opening five matches.
Ty Morris’ men ran in eight in tries against RGC as they followed up the 12 they scored in a thumping win against Aberavon the week before.
“It was another excellent performance, particularly in attack)’ head Newport head coach Morris.
“I'm really pleased with how clinical the boys are at the moment. Our set-piece continues to be superb and has been a key building block in our recent results.
“Credit must also go to our attack coach, Gareth [Wyatt], who has us playing exciting, dangerous rugby regardless of the backline selected.”
Scrumhalf Dafydd Buckland ran in two first-half tries for Newport, with centre Harrison James and left wing Chay Foster-Smith helping put the Black and Ambers 28-17 up by the break. Carwyn Penny kicked the conversions.
Hooker Jac Petch-Jones and fullback Dion Jones scored for RGC, both converted by Billy McBryde who also sent over a penalty.
