'Career burglar' targeted businesses
Western Mail
|November 14, 2025
A “CAREER burglar” targeted a number of small businesses including sports clubs and a coffee shop which closed not long afterwards.
-
He said he carried out the thefts in order to fund his own drug addiction.
Iain Thompson, 52, has a number of previous convictions for burglary and carried out a spree of break ins at various establishments in the Vale of Glamorgan including kiosks in Barry Island and sports clubs in Penarth and Barry over the course of a few days.
A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court heard the first burglary took place at Penarth Tennis Club on August 27, and was seen on CCTV wearing a balaclava.
He used a fire door to break into the premises and entered the rear clubhouse but no items were stolen.
