Cab driver raped passenger after taking her home

A TAXI driver picked up a woman after a night out, helped her inside and up to her bedroom, and then raped her in her own home, a court heard.

Dominic Dalton, 30, of Pencader, Carmarthenshire, was working a shift as a taxi driver during the early hours of February 25 last year when he picked up two women who had been on a night out in Aberystwyth.

One of the women was dropped off first, leaving the victim as the only person in the car with Dalton.

At Swansea Crown Court this week, a jury heard how Dalton claimed the meter in his taxi had stopped working during the journey as it was not recorded once the vehicle had left the victim's friend’s house.

The court also heard how the victim fell in and out of sleep on the journey, and that once they arrived at her home Dalton helped her into the property and to her bedroom.

She fell asleep again, and when she woke she found the taxi driver raping her.

She tried to get him to leave the house - even running to the kitchen and getting hold of a knife - but he refused.
