ELLIE James is unapologetic about what she and her late husband Owain did when they were told he had a huge brain tumour.

She admits that experimental options such as alternative diets, supplementary treatments and additional therapies were not only unavailable on the NHS but discouraged by it.

But she believes they made the right call. Not only did her husband die a better death than some of those with the same condition, but he managed to defy the odds thanks to a vaccine that achieved something his consultant had told his wife was impossible.

While they didn’t want to be told his prognosis, she asked privately whether the 14cm tumour that had been found in his brain would ever go away.
