FRIENDS of a woman who opted for assisted suicide in Switzerland after battling cancer for 15 years have revealed how brave, generous and unselfish she was.

- PHIL NORRIS

Tammy Mattinson’s death has left a huge hole in the lives of her family and friends but they have now opened up and spoken about her remarkable character.

With assisted suicide still illegal in Britain, although that looks set to change soon, Tammy linked up with the Dignitas organisation and travelled to its base in Switzerland to end her life on March 26 this year.

Tammy had been told she had less than six months to live and the 52-year-old, who worked in insurance and lived in Brunswick Square, Gloucester, wanted to take control of the short time that she had left to show how much her friends meant to her.

She certainly did that, spending many hours over her final two weeks in a cocktail bar in the city’s docks area.

Staff at the Our House Bar, in the Food Dock at Gloucester Docks, had no idea that when she met up with many different pals there, it was to say goodbye to them all.
