Flats plan approved at third attempt

CONTROVERSIAL plans to demolish buildings at the top of Whiteladies Road in Bristol and replace them with 60 flats in two blocks have been approved at the third attempt.

Bristol City Council planning committee voted 4-3 to grant permission despite objections from residents at a retirement home next to the site who said they would be “confined to their homes” during and after construction because the only access to the new development was off Redland Hill, then past their complex and through a car park.

Councillors clashed over the decision, with the current committee chairman accusing a predecessor of not being in touch with reality by insisting on refusing the proposals.
