COUNTY council election season approaches again, exposing a perennial conflict - a reality that undermines orthodox electoral strategies and shatters many common assumptions about how Cornwall's political parties respond to the demands, hopes and aspirations of voters they must appeal to.

Cornwall displays a genuine multi-party landscape, with six political groupings (if you class Independents as a distinct element) represented in Lys Kernow, and they seem certain to be joined by a seventh, Reform UK, during the upcoming election cycle. However, the relationship between electorate and councillors remains hobbled by a dysfunctional first-past-the-post (FPTP) voting system designed to sustain two-party domination.
