Plans for 40 homes approved after builder says they will go to locals

A CORNWALL Council planning committee has approved plans by the council's own offshoot company Treveth to build 40 homes despite concerns about the number of affordable properties being proposed.

Outline approval was granted in 2023 for the proposal, on 1.37 hectares of undeveloped land off Angarrack Lane at the southern edge of Connor Downs, between Camborne and Hayle, and the latest application sought consent for the design, layout and scale.

It is an affordable-led scheme, half the properties being classed as affordable and earmarked for local people. Ten of the homes would be for affordable rent, 10 for shared ownership and 20 for sale on the open market.

However, divisional member Cllr Lionel Pascoe and the parish council were not happy with the minimum affordable housing provision, the low number of rented properties and that, despite assurances to the contrary, there was no guarantee that the open-market properties would be occupied by local people.

The matter came before a meeting of the council's strategic planning committee on Thursday, April 17.
