Outrage over electric vehicle menace

SEA POINT
THE Cape Town Carnival festival returns on March 21 at the Green Point Fan Walk, with the same unique spirit of celebrating and sharing Mzansi's cultures under the theme "Follow Your heART". More than 1,200 performers from over 50 community groups will be expected to transform the city streets into a living artwork.

SEA Point's iconic promenade, a hub for sunrise and sunset walks, skateboarding, cycling, and family outings, is facing a growing safety concern: the increasing presence of electric vehicles, including motorbikes and scooters.
Jacques Weber recently highlighted the risks after observing the promenade firsthand. “It is an accident waiting to happen,” he wrote on social media.
He noted that while traditional bicycles and skateboards have long been part of the beachfront culture, high-speed electric devices introduce a level of risk that is “wholly inappropriate” for an environment dominated by pedestrians, families, and children.
