Anger over delays to suspension bridge repairs

NEWS that repairs are set to drag on at the iconic Menai Suspension Bridge have been greeted with wide- spread disbelief.

Work will now continue on the crossing during its 200th anniversary on January 30 next year.
The Welsh Government has revealed the work will now not be finished until next spring. It was originally due to be completed by the end of this year.
It means roadworks and traffic lights will remain in place for months longer, with just one lane open. The operator, UK Highways A55, has blamed procurement problems and “issues in gaining necessary licences”.
An official reopening ceremony is now “currently planned” for August next year to coincide with the birthday of the bridge’s designer Thomas Telford. Online reaction has been one of anger and disbelief, with some people already starting to worry further delays might be possible.
