Sci-tech, innovation head pledges with EU
Vietnam Investment Review
|June 01, 2026
Vietnam and the European Union have forged new commitments in science, technology, and innovation, with new policies benefiting enterprises of both sides.
European Commissioner for Startups, Research and Innovation Ekaterina Zaharieva last week paid a visit to Vietnam to strengthen cooperation between the two in sci-tech and innovation, in line with the recent elevation of EU-Vietnam relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
“Vietnam is emerging as a dynamic innovation partner with scientific and technological ambitions, a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem with outstanding talent,” Commissioner Zaharieva stated. “Together, we want to deepen our cooperation in science, technology, research, and innovation; support young innovators and researchers; and create new opportunities for businesses and startups of both sides. The EU is a strategic and reliable partner in supporting Vietnam’s economic transformation, scientific excellence and tech autonomy.”
During her visit, Zaharieva highlighted Horizon Europe, the EU’s flagship funding programme for research and innovation, and encourage new cooperation and investment opportunities between European and Vietnamese researchers, innovators, startups and businesses.
Last week, Vietnam and the EU forged a new commitment to strengthen cooperation in related areas by signing of a letter of intent between the European Commission, on behalf of the European Union, and Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology.
